XUEYUN FENG
Curator/Artist/Designer
Being raised in a family with a rich artistic heritage fostered the development of my critical and analytical thinking when engaging with color, imagery, and form. Over the course of nearly a decade, my academic training and professional practice in the fields of art and design, spanning both London and Beijing, have cultivated my artistic capabilities and instilled in me the confidence to pursue innovative approaches to design. During this period, I have traveled intermittently or continuously to over forty countries. Therefor, I have developed a profound academic interest in the historical and artistic expressions of diverse cultures. These experiences have enabled me to delve deeply into the invaluable cultural heritage created by humanity throughout history, that belongs to all of humankind, and to draw substantial knowledge and inspiration from it.
I am deeply fascinated by the traditional artistic crafts—encompassing architecture, painting, textiles, and material practices—that emerge from diverse cultural contexts. In contrast to the advancements of modern technology and artificial intelligence, I maintain a firm conviction that artifacts crafted by human hands inherently embody a unique essence and vitality. I am particularly captivated by the enduring aesthetic traditions that have been preserved and transmitted across millennia within various cultural frameworks. Consequently, my aesthetic philosophy and creative output serve as a manifestation of my individual engagement with and interpretation of human history, sociocultural dynamics, artistic traditions, the natural world, and even the broader cosmos.
Over the past decade, my primary residences have been in London and Paris, cities that have afforded me the opportunity to engage deeply with the evolving landscapes of contemporary art, design, and curatorial practise. This engagement spans a diverse array of disciplines, including graphic design, illustration, installation art, fashion, architecture, interior aesthetics, photography, and performance art. Through sustained exposure and critical inquiry into these fields, I have progressively cultivated and articulated a distinct aesthetic sensibility, which informs my interpretation and evaluation of contemporary art, design and curatorial practices.
My creative practice is deeply rooted in the inspiration drawn from nature and traditional art, employing minimalist and fluid lines, organic geometries, and harmonious, subdued color palettes as fundamental elements in my work. Simultaneously, I am profoundly engaged in the practice of curation, where I collaborate with artists to reimagine confined spaces into dynamic, immersive installations. By utilising their artworks as a medium, we collectively strive to create expansive, multi-sensory experiences that resonate with audiences on a profound level.
I look forward to the opportunity to meet and collaborate with you.
